"Mantis Shrimp" is a mixed media original created with watercolor, colored pencil, micron pen, and gel pens.
I made this piece during a bit of an art block, when I was trying to find my way back into creating. The idea actually came from a piece of Japanese pottery I own—a bowl with a blue lobster painted inside. Something about it sparked my curiosity, and I followed that thread into this vibrant mantis shrimp.
Known for their incredible color and energy, mantis shrimp feel almost otherworldly, and I wanted this piece to reflect that sense of movement and brightness. It’s a playful, bold addition for anyone drawn to ocean life or colorful, expressive artwork.
